Although two
major roadways, Interstate 10 and U.S.
Highway 77, now intersect Schulenburg to
make the high speed pace of modern life more
evident, you're invited to stop off, slowdown, and see what evolved from a slower era. |
 |
The town developed
from two communities - Lyons, established in 1842, a mile to the south -
and High Hill - established at nearly the same time about three miles to
the Northwest. In 1873, the land for the Galveston, Harrisburg, and San
Antonio railroad was sold and a town was named after one of the owners
Louis Schulenburg. Businesses, as well as much of the population from
outlying areas moved to Schulenburg, which existed mainly as a farming
community. |
 |
Today, farming and
ranching are staples, but Schulenburg is also home to quite a number of
large industries. part of what was left behind among the beautiful rolling
hills is evidence of a simpler time, when folks worked the fields from
dawn 'til dusk and met faithfully each Sunday to worship. Their lives
centered around their churches, and they put so much effort into every
facet of their faith, including the buildings in which they gathered. |

The Schulenburg
Chamber of Commerce invites you to spend some time at the
historical
places in town as well as view the unmatched craftsmanship that went into
the "Painted Churches". |
